"Twelve Nights In Hollywood" to zestaw niezwykły. Na czterech płytach ( dwa osobne wydawnictwa wydawane po 2 CD) znalazły się 77 niepublikowane wcześniej nagrania Pierwszej Damy Piosenki z jej najlepszego okresu, zarejestrowane na żywo w klubie Crescendo w Los Angeles w 1961 i 1962 roku. Podczas dziesięciu majowych wieczorów (a potem jeszcze dwóch rok później) Ella była w znakomitej formie. Wiele znajdujących się tu utworów zaśpiewała po raz pierwszy, wiele z nich nagra potem w studio. Na scenie akompaniowało jej trio Lou Levy'ego oraz gitarzysta Herb Ellis. Zaśpiewane w Crescendo brzmią nadal świeżo i porywająco. Producent i manager wokalistki Norman Granz wybrał 12 nagrań na wydany w 1961 roku album "Ella In Hollywood". Reszta taśm przeleżała w archiwum aż do 1988 roku, kiedy Phil Schaap odkrył 14 godzin niepublikowanych nagrań z Los Angeles, koncerty z Rzymu oraz Chicago z 1958 roku. Dopiero w ubiegłym roku Richard Seidel po przesłuchaniu wszystkich nagrań dokonał wyboru 77 z nich, które wypełniły dwa podwójne zestawy płyt. Wśród wybranych piosenek znalazły się sztandarowe utwory z repertuaru niezrównanej Elli Fitzgerald, m.in. "But Not For Me", "Nice Work If You Can Get It", "Perdido", "How High the Moon" , czy "When Your Lover Has Gone". Wydawnictwa zostały wzbogacone o obszerny komentarz i zdjęcia. Autorem ilustracji na okładce płyty jest Bart Forbes.
